By consuming large amounts of pineapple, you won`t obtain too much bromelain because the highest concentration is found in the tail.

The tail although is edible, doesn`t taste very good. Or you may be able to get the necessary intake of bromelain from dietary supplements.

Can Pineapple Cause Miscarriage in Early Pregnancy?

There are a lot of stories that can be found online about the consumption of pineapple while pregnant. Some of them claim that eating pineapple large quantities during pregnancy may lead to miscarriage or premature birth, because it softens the cervix which in turn leads to premature birth. Although it`s true what is known about bromelain softening the cervix, it should be know that for this effect to be produced, the woman would have to eat at least 7 whole fruits, which firstly will lead to diarrhea and then to a possible elasticity of the cervix. So, although this is a healthy fruit, pineapple should be consumed in moderate quantities.

There is no scientific evidence to back up these claims. Most doctor consider that a miscarriage can occur when the mother`s health is poor or the fetal development is abnormal, and what you are eating has nothing to do with this problem.

  • If you do not have a fresh pineapple core, you can consume 1 cup of the fresh part of the fruit once a day. You should start the first day after ovulation or IVF transfer.

  • Cut up an entire fruit, then cut its core into 5 equal pieces and eat 1 piece per day after ovulation or IVF transfer.
