Cramps after Period Ends

The absence of period and appearance of cramps aren`t always correlated. In many cases, the cause of cramps can be a pelvic inflammatory disease, but the issues can also be caused by other organs.

Irritable bowel syndrome may produce similar abdominal cramps, and sometimes the first symptoms appear within a month in which you don`t have a period. Another cause for the appearance of these cramps which coincide with amenorrhea is related to the gallbladder problems.

Abdominal cramps accompanied by the absence of menstrual cycle may also indicate an ectopic pregnancy. If also experience other symptoms associated with an ectopic pregnancy, it`s important to consult a doctor immediately.

When the 2 symptoms are related, which only the doctor can confirm you, there are 3 problems which may put your health in jeopardy.

Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts filled with liquid may cause both problems when abdominal cramps coincide with amenorrhea. In the case of ovarian follicular cysts, the problem usually resolves on its own within maximum 3 months.

Corpus luteum cysts may have even more acute symptoms, but they disappear in a few weeks. The risk of ovarian cysts of this type is higher when you follow a fertility treatment, which changes the hormonal balance in the organism. In some cases, corpus luteum cysts can be cancerous, but this happens more rarely.

Autoimmune Oophoritis

Autoimmune oophoritis is an inflammation of the ovaries caused by the overactivity of the immune system. This inflammation may harm the ovaries rapidly and may decrease fertility and hormonal production.

Usually, autoimmune oophoritis is also accompanied by symptoms, such as fever, fatigue, vaginal discharges and severe abdominal cramps.

Up to 10% from cases of premature ovarian failure is caused by this disease, which leads to infertility when isn`t treated in time.

Ovarian Cancer

Lots of cases of ovarian cancer is misdiagnosed, such as irritable bowel syndrome or other disorders, but abdominal cramps and amenorrhea aren`t enough symptoms to worry about cancer.

The appearance of ovarian tumors is also accompanied by other symptoms, such as bloating or swelling of the area along with irregular menstrual cycle and difficulties in postponing urination.

If you aren`t sure of the cause of your abdominal cramps which coincide with the absence of your period in a certain month, it`s important to get in touch your doctor or eventually a gynecologist who can offer you a correct diagnosis.

What Is Cramping after Period Ends?

According to WebMD, post menstrual cramps can be a symptom of endometriosis. They are usually caused by the tissue that grows outside the uterine cavity. Endometriosis may cause cramps after period ends but also before or during menstruation during bowel movements or sexual contact.

Is It Normal to Have Cramps After Period?

In most normal situations, the uterus should expel all of the content until the period ends. If after your menstruation you still have blood in the body, it needs to be expelled no matter if it`s after the normal menstruation. In many cases, this may cause cramps or spotting. Cysts might form in the uterus`s tissue and cause bleeding or post menstrual cramps.

Why Am I Cramping?

A late period or an early pregnancy are almost always the most common causes for which women experience cramping, although there`s no period. Still, there`re other causes why cramps might happen without the existence of a period. For example, cramping may also occur when the uterine muscles contract so the uterine lining can be expelled, which most of the times consists of small blood vessels.

Ok, But Why Do I Get Cramps Before my Period?

You may ask yourself why do period cramping occurs before your menstruation. A lot of women experience cramps before menstruation starts. This is most of the times because the changes that involve the uterine lining leading up to the blood flow are in fact underway for a couple of days before you`ll be able to see any bleeding.

Why Would I Be Spotting 2 Weeks after my Period?

According to WebMD, spotting appears when a woman is ovulating, meaning in the middle of a menstrual cycle or around 2 weeks after menstruation. Other causes for this may involve stress, birth control pills, uterine fibroids, infections, polyps or miscarriage.

Cramps after Period (Pregnant?)

Women who try to remain pregnant might experience implantation. When this happens, the lining of the uterus might shed and lead to some bleeding which lasts for around 1 or 2 days and is pretty light.

Cramps during Ovulation

Women are also still cramping after period due to reasons related to ovulation.

How Do You Feel the Cramps Caused by Ovulation?

This experience can be a little different depending on every woman. Some women claim dull cramps in the lower abdomen or pelvis – similar to the one caused by menstruation.

The pain caused by ovulation can last for 1 or 2 hours or in some cases even for 2 days.

Other women report short pains (acute and intense) at the middle of the menstrual cycle, which usually last for a few seconds.

While this pain is bearable, some women pass through the experience of some acute pains which last for more than a few minutes, which is sometimes mistaken with appendicitis.

Where Does these Cramps Occur During Ovulation?

This is an internal pain, which usually take place either in the left or right side of the lower abdomen (inside the hip bone).

Some women always feel this pain in one part of the body (usually in the right side), while others feel the pain in both sides of the body.

Although is less common, some women feel this pain simultaneously in both parts of the abdomen.

Why Do Women Experience these Cramps?

There are more reasons for the appearance of these cramps:

  • The increase of the number of follicles in the ovaries before ovulation.
  • Ovarian wall rupture, which appears in each month of ovulation.
  • Muscle contractions in the fallopian tubes and ovaries, which appear after ovulation.

How Do You Know these Cramps Are Caused by Ovulation?

These cramps vary from one woman to another and be rather monotone, which last for more than a day, or sudden and acute, which last for only a few minutes.

If you felt similar pains that appear in the middle of your menstruation, it`s possible for them to be caused by ovulation.

Even so, there can be many other causes for abdominal cramps. If the pains are unusual or they don`t pass in the indicated time frame, or if you have other reasons to be concern, you should probably visit your doctor.

Other Causes for Post Menstrual Cramps

There may be many different reasons for which you may experience cramps after menstruation.

  • Uterine cysts: As mentioned above, cysts might form in the uterus`s tissue, which may often lead to bleeding or cramping.
  • Hormonal imbalance: If you experience hormonal imbalance, your organism will suffer some rapid changes. Irregular periods and cramps are common symptoms of hormonal imbalances.
  • Conventional birth control: If you are taking birth control pills, you might see some spotting after your menstruation ends. This is often caused by hormonal level changes.
  • Ovulation: This is one of the most common causes of cramping after menstruation, and it happens when the egg is released from the ovaries. Normally, it shouldn`t cause any pain, but there are women who claimed to have experienced pelvic pains and cramping 2 weeks after their period ended.
  • Pelvic Inflammation Disease: More commonly known as PID, this refers to almost any kind of infection caused by bacteria in the ovaries, uterus or fallopian tubes. This may sometimes cause cramps after menstruation ends, but also tissue scars or even infertility. The most frequent signs are irregular menstrual bleeding, abnormal discharges and fever.
  • Uterine fibroids: Fibroids are in fact non-cancerous tumors that grow in the uterine tissue. Additionally to causing pain after menstruation, they may also lead to increased waistline weight, irregular bleeding or frequent urination.
  • Endometriosis: As mentioned above, this medical condition is often related to tissue that grows in the exterior of the uterus. It often develops in the ovaries, but not only in that area. This will often cause some pain that can be rather similar to cramps. This type of growths don`t slough off like we know uterine tissue normally does, but they often break and bleed similar to the uterine tissue during the menstrual cycle.
  • Other Diseases: There are some serious health issues, such as cancer or thyroid problems, that can lead to a fluctuation of your natural menstrual cycle. This in turn may lead to abdominal pains and cramps immediately after your period.
