Excessive Hygiene Is Harmful

Female genital area has its own cleaning system, so repeated washing can be harmful and may even lead to the dryness of external mucosa. The same effect happens with some wet wipes, sprays or similar products.

All you need for your personal hygiene is a gel or lotion the right Ph for that specific area – the skin`s Ph is neutral, while the one of the genital area is slightly acidic. Fortunately, there are many products available on the market, so depending on your budget or preferences, you have from which you choose. Keep in mind that such products shouldn`t contain perfumes or dyes. – Learn more!

  • Carefree, gel
  • Clean, lotion
  • Eucerin, soap
  • Clorane, soap
  • Nivea Intimo
  • Uriage gel

With these products you need to wash the vulva once a day, meaning the external genital organs, without introducing soup or gel into the vagina. The proper direction is from front to back so you won`t bring bacteria from the anal area towards the vagina or urethra. These bacteria can cause vaginitis or urinary infections, which are quite frequent to women because of the small distance between the anus and urethra.

Also, the anal area needs to be kept as clean as possible to avoid spreading bacteria, and after every sexual contact it`s recommended a shower.

Vaginal Care

Vaginal care refers to the process of washing or cleaning the vagina with water or a special solution to remove the contents of the uterus.

Vaginal washing can be done with various non-prescription drugs, but also with certain types of substances to treat conditions or to prepare for certain procedures. – Visit this page!

The vagina is naturally cleaned through its own mucous secretion. During bath or shower, use warm water and gentle scentless soap to clean the exterior areas of the vagina. Intimate hygiene products such as special soaps, powders and sprays are unnecessary and can cause irritation of sensitive tissues.

Why Women Choose Vaginal Washing?

Women choose to do vaginal washes for a variety of reasons. Many of these are myths or erroneous information about the beneficial effect of vaginal care. Women believe that through vaginal showers, they are able to:

  • Remove remnants of menstrual blood remaining at the end of the menstrual period – this is not necessary as the cleaning will take place naturally anyway, without other interventions.
  • Avoid pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases or other infections – vaginal care does not have a contraceptive role nor can protect the body from STDs or other infections. Excessive use of vaginal washing may even increase the risk of developing infections.
  • Diminish vaginal odors – Women who have an unusual vaginal odor should consult their doctor for a correct diagnosis, as this may be the symptom of serious infections, and vaginal bleeding may lead to complications. – Click here!
  • Increase the effectiveness of treatments prescribed by a doctor to treat chronic infections with fungi or bacteria – showers for this purpose should only be made at the doctor’s advice.

Vaginal washing, made manually with soap or special devices and substances from the pharmacy, not only that are totally useless, but they can be quite dangerous as well.

First of all as already been mentioned, the vagina cleans itself due to its discharges, and its acidity kills the microorganisms that don`t belong there. A healthy vagina doesn`t need to be washed with soup or other substances. – Check this out!

Second of all, the risk of getting an infection is greater when you are washing yourself inside the vagina because its bacterial balance is fragile and can be affected by the substances that you introduce in the vagina. An imbalance of the “good” bacteria can be translated with high chances of survival for the “bad” bacteria. And if you use irrigators or other devices for vaginal washes, the risk of infections doubles because, probably, you won`t sterilize them with their every use. Any device introduced in the vagina represents a risk of infection.
